FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS

Art. 12 – All citizens of both sexes shall have the same rights and the same duties.

Art. 13 – Any citizen over 19 years of age shall have the right to vote.

Art. 14 – The private home shall be inviolable and the secrecy of mail shall be guaranteed to all citizens.

Art. 15 – No one shall be arrested or prosecuted except as provided by the law, before the judges and in accordance with the procedures provided for in applicable law.

Art. 16 – The Republic acknowledges the right of every citizen to a decent life and to a fair share of the national revenue. 

Art. 17 – The family, as the fundamental unit of society, shall be placed under the protection of the State.

Art. 18 – Education shall be compulsory, culture shall be offered to everybody, without any discriminations other than the ones resulting from the capacities of everyone, and the needs of the community.

Art. 19 – The Republic shall guarantee the freedom of the press and the other means of information, freedom of association, freedom of speech, freedom of public intervention, as well as freedom of assembly.

Art. 20 – The Trade union right, the right to strike, and the participation of workers in the management of companies shall be acknowledged and shall be exercised within the framework of the law.

Art. 21 – The Algerian Republic shall guarantee the right to asylum to all those who struggle for freedom.

Art. 22 – No one shall use the above rights and freedoms to undermine the independence of the nation, territorial integrity, national unity, the institutions of the Republic, the socialist aspirations of the people, and the principle of oneness of the National Liberation Front.
