CHAPTER 6: THE NATIONAL PEOPLE’S ARMY |

Art. 82 – The National People’s Army, which is heir to the National Liberation Army and shield of the Revolution, shall be entrusted with the permanent mission of protecting the national independence and sovereignty. It shall be in charge of defending the unity and the territorial integrity of the country, as well as protecting its air and land space, its territorial waters, its continental shelf, and its exclusive economic area. The National People’s Army, as an instrument of the Revolution, shall participate in the development of the country and the building of socialism. Art. 83 – The popular factor shall be a decisive element in the national defence. The National People’s Army shall be the permanent defence organism that shall determine the organization and the consolidation of the national defence. Art. 84 – The national service is a duty and an honour. It shall be organized to meet the essential needs of national defence in order to ensure the social and cultural promotion of the great majority of people and to contribute to the development of the country. Art. 85 – The Mudjahidine and their legal successors shall enjoy a special protection from the State. The State and society shall be under the obligation to guarantee the intrinsic rights of the Mudjahidine and their legal successors and to protect their dignity. |
